Day Off Means Unpacking

Our (my mother and I) days are usually really busy doing errands, taking care of my grandparents, and taking care of the dogs.  We used to sew clothes all day and at night I would handle what ever business of the month I was doing, lately its been LimeLight by Alcone, which I adore. However, ever since we found out I was pregnant, I dropped everything. I had no interest to do anything extra because I was so sick and tired. Now in my second trimester, I’m coming out of the fog and ready to get back in the swing of things.

Thursdays are my day off because mom works at the Temple.  When I had my car, I’d go care for my grandparents and let my parents dogs out.  Now that my car isn’t drive-able at the moment, I am dependent on mom and my husband to drive me around.  So today I have nothing to do but unpack and since I have a little bit of energy, I thought I’d tackle the office boxes. Yes I have more than one box of office crap and only one desk.  I have this old antique roll top desk that my dear sweet husband thought it would be nice to replace the drawer glides, to make them open smoothly.  Well sometimes old desks can’t be modernized with new glides.  We have had the hardest time finding some that would fit and now I have 3 working drawers with handles, 2 working drawers with no handles, and 2 non working drawers. The two drawers that don’t have handles on them, I have to open them with a screw. Before the desk was in the basement so it really didn’t matter how messy it was since no one saw it.  We decided to keep it upstairs in the dining room and replace the industrial spindle I was using for a dining room table, even though we never used it.  I never got around to refinishing the wood on it so it did give splinters.  Its now outside.  I love this desk being in the dining room! It looks like it should have always been there, but now that means its has to stay neat.   Which means my loving husband now has to fix the drawers.  Not sure how he will do it but it must be done.

Anyways, I got the two boxes unpacked and now have a bin that goes to my moms full of shipping supplies. This is probably the 3rd box to go to her house, which I am sure my dad is thrilled with.

We have about 4-5 boxes that need to go to Goodwill and I am so proud of myself for having that many. I have a slight hoarder complex, but after becoming pregnant and moving into an upgraded unit, I have wanted to clean house and purge crap I am not using. I am sure there is still a bunch I could get rid of. Our kitchen is a little smaller than our last place and we have a crazy amount of kitchen gear.  I’m not willing to clutter up my counters so I’m not sure where we will put this other stuff that hasn’t been unpacked.  We have a dehydrator, which the hubs really wants to use and so do I but it takes so long.  Then there is our popcorn maker which only my husband uses.

I have two bathroom boxes that I for some reason am having a hard time unpacking.  One of them is small and the other is an extra large box that does have other items in it, but I look at them (the boxes) and just don’t want to open them.  Is that strange? I have one big bin that needs to be unloaded and I am not sure what’s all in it  I know there are some clothes in it, so those I can put up, but we already have so much unpacked and not much room to put more.  The only room that is actually unpacked and sort of ready for more is the baby room.  That was a priority for me.

Whats left is two clothing boxes full of leggings and undershirts and 4 unknown misc. boxes that I am “afraid” to open.  Hubby has been working on the basement, which is now his man cave. That was his priority.  Hahahaha.  He did help me with the baby room.

We are getting close to being done and I’d expect to be done by this weekend and then I can dust and clean the floors.  Looking forward to not walking around a maze of boxes.

My My How Things Have Changed

It has been two years since my last post.  So much has changed.

Career: Mom and I changed our company, Opeys Home, from making custom pillows (although we do take custom orders for them), but now we make and sell pet clothing and accessories.  We have had partial success with it and have had our product in a vets clinic and soon will have it in a Pet club.  I also started selling Agnes & Dora, womens clothing, but after selling it for several months, I ended up leaving that company for many reasons I wont go into.  I then started selling LimeLight by Alcone, professional makeup and love love love this company. They have the only skin care and foundation that I have ever been able to use, that did not affect my seborrheic dermatitis. It will be my last company to join and sale.

Weight Loss/Health: When I last posted I had talked about my weight loss experience and eating healthier.  Well several months later, our finances had changed and I could not longer afford personal training so I had to give it up. I tried to stay healthy, but I let old bad habits of not eating and going out to eat set back in.  I gained about 2o ish lbs back and had to go back to my old jeans and clothes, but was able to keep it at that weight.  Then about 6-7 months ago, we started NutriSystem and it really gave me great results!  I lost the weight I had gained back and was doing really great!  After 2 months of being on the System, I ended up ordering nothing but pasta with marinara  for almost all of my meals…. I am only human and that really got old.  I ended up talking my husband into us cheating here and there and that ended up ending the System.  Once again, we fell back into old habits.  Mom and I started going to the personal trainer again (I was kidding myself thinking I could financially handle it) just before Christmas.

Side Note: For the past 7 years we have tried for babies and sadly were not able to have   any viable babies.  We went through the heartache of 3 miscarriages and monthly disappointments.  We have tried so many natural remedies and really wanted to stay away from conventional medicine.  We found this fertility tracking bracelet that you only wear at night, called Ava, last June and ordered it without hesitation.  It tracks your body temperature, resting heart rate, sleep patterns, and other data points.  Its all analyzed and gives you your best times to conceive. We didn’t actually get it until the end of October, as it was brand new technology and still in the beginning stages of production.

Pregnancy: Two weeks before Christmas, I wasn’t feeling well but didnt think much about it.  I figured any day I start and it never came… again with PCOS, I didn’t think much about it as I am not regular.  Christmas morning I was sitting there and thought… I should test.  Don’t know what made me think of it but I went ahead and actually forgot that I tested.  I happened to look down and saw a Positive Test!!!  I was in shock so I took 2 more tests.  All were positive.  I was in utter shock!  No way I was pregnant… no way.  I immediately went downstairs with this onesie we had been saving and told my husband we had another gift to wrap for my parents… I showed him the onesie and he didn’t understand at first.  Once it set in what was going on he stood up and we hugged as I bawled.

Back to the gym that following Tuesday (since going back to the gym, we had only been able to do one session before Christmas)… I was so excited to tell our trainer.  She was super excited too but then this meant adjusting our workouts for baby.  We were only able to go for maybe 2 months before baby bills started to pile up. We also had to move into a bigger place so there was an added cost there too. So once again I had to cut out the trainer.  I did loose more inches but the weight stayed the same.

Fast forward through the first trimester…  The first trimester was rough.  It was full of constant nausea, constant fatigue, constant emotions (weepy and not so nice), bouts of being hangry, tons of food aversions, wonderful Dr apts with amazing sonograms of our little miracle, getting poked and blood drawn.  It was a roller coaster of a trimester.  It also shed light on how much true pregnancy is not talked about.  No one really tells you what is actually going to happen during pregnancy.  We had a spotting scare and a major dizziness scare that through me for a loop, but the baby has a really strong heart beat and the Dr said our pregnancy is really low risk which is a blessing in itself.

We are now in our second trimester… This one is a little better.  The nausea, emotions, bouts of hangry, and food aversions are all mostly gone but they have been replaced with heartburn/indigestion, and headaches.  Not horrible but still no fun.  Something to look forward to this trimester is getting to know what we are having!  I’m hoping to maybe find out sooner… I’m looking into it.

Our New Place: On top of now being pregnant, we have now moved and trying to settle in.  I’m getting tired quickly so unpacking is taking me a little bit.  We have several boxes that need to go to Goodwill and I am sure I will add more to them. We moved to a 2 bedroom town home with the same floor plan as our last place. It is upgraded with new hardwood floors, new kitchen, new bathroom vanities, and a wonderful color scheme.  It isn’t built as well as the last place and there are things that set off my OCD.  Lines that aren’t straight, paint jobs that aren’t within the lines, blinds that don’t match. Nothing that hinders us living here but definitely bothers me. Hubby tells me not to look at the crooked lines.

It has truly been a busy and blessed two years! So much has happened and so much has changed.

The Struggles of Dieting

Dieting is never easy.  For anyone.

Back in the day, my diet was very poor.  I gained weight like crazy and it wasn’t because I ate all the time.  Ugh it would get so annoying when talking about losing weight, I was told by different people to not eat so much or make my portions smaller…. Listen…. I may have been bigger most of my life but it’s not because of how much I ate!  I’m sure you have heard of the show My Big Fat Fabulous Life with Whitney Thore?

MYBIGFATFABLIFE

I love this show and I love this chick!!!  I can connect with her in many ways.  She has PCOS which is one of the causes of her gaining weight, I also have PCOS that causes me to gain weight easily and it’s so hard to lose it.   The other thing we have in common is that our diets were the same.  We don’t sit there and stuff our faces, a common disbelief of heavier people. Instead we did the opposite and we never ate, but once a day.  We did not know at the time that doing so did the opposite of what we thought it would do.

Here is the thing.  When you don’t eat all day and then just eat dinner your body holds on to every little bit that you eat because it knows you won’t be eating for awhile and this in turn makes you gain weight.  Add that to PCOS and not only do you gain weight but you gain more of it and fast.  You can be active all day long, it doesn’t always help.

Once I decided to loose weight, I knew it was time to get my eating habits on point.  That means working my way up to eating at least 3 meals a day and then adding some snacks in there.  Once I was able to do that, it would then be time to make what we were eating healthy.  So we started buying organic food from Sprouts.  That was working really well, so recently we stepped that up to having salads for dinner.  That worked really well until all I was having was salads.  lol  Salad for lunch and salad for dinner.  You get tired of the same thing all the time.  So the past 2 weeks, I’ve been cheating.  I found these amazing cookies from Sprouts and we started having cookies every night and then I would suggest us go out to eat instead of salads.

Well I didn’t gain any weight or go up in inches which was good cause I was actually pretty nervous about weigh in.  So it was nice to know that even when I mess up on my diet, I can still manage to not gain.

My grandmother would say “The good thing about diets is you can always start again tomorrow.”  Well I would say that’s true.  We can all make mistakes and dieting is not easy, but even when we mess up, we can always start again tomorrow.  Which is what I plan to do, but this time I’m going to mix it up with a protein and a side.

Don’t give up on yourself.

Eye Opening Results!!!

When I started this journey technically 2 years ago, I weighed in over 300 lbs for the 2nd time in my life.  The first time I lost weight but my body wasn’t ready and my back went out on me and I gained the weight back.  The second time around I did a few 5k’s but again my body started fighting back at me, but that time i was able to keep off the weight I lost.  Then while moving to Kansas I gained back 10 lbs and we really upset.

So mom and I joined the gym and started seeing a trainer.  We started out once a week and went up to twice a week and now we are going 3 times a week, plus we do water aerobics a couple of times a week.

I knew I was seeing results but not much until I started taking It Works supplements and made even better eating choices and now I am all in weight loss mode.  It is paying off!!!!

Our trainer took some videos of us working hard and I was so bummed seeing how big my stomach still looked and was feeling defeated.  Even though I saw the numbers come down on the scale and on the measuring tape but I couldn’t see it in pictures.  Well tonight I did a before and after picture and it finally opened my eyes to how far I have come in this journey.  So here we go….

Here is before the weight loss journey at 305 lbs and here is now at 269 lbs!!!

Getting Healthy…. Inside and Out!

2 Years ago I weighed in over 300 lbs for the 2nd time in my life.  I started walking and lost 40 lbs, but do to health (body issues), I had to stop walking for a little bit.  I was able to keep the weight off until April of this year where I left my comfort zone and gained 10+ lbs (diet changes).  New weight loss journey began a week after we moved to Kansas.  So I mentioned that mom and I joined the gym….  Well this week we decided to add a 3rd trainer session every week.  So now our gym schedule looks like this:

Monday – Trainer AM, Water Aerobics PM

Tuesday – Water Aerobics AM for 1.5-2 hrs

Wednesday – Trainer AM, Water Aerobics PM

Thursday – Off

Friday – Trainer AM, Water Aerobics PM

Saturday – Water Aerobics AM for 1.5-2 hrs

That gives us 9-11 hours of exercise a week!  We have been doing this for 4 weeks now as far as the amount of exercise so I know we can do it.

Now that I am getting myself together on the outside, it’s time to get myself together on the inside.  I mentioned that I sell doTerra Essential Oils but now I also sell IT Works!

On top of the exercise, I decided to look at what I can take that is all natural and would help me to loose weight from the inside, as well as, make sure that I am getting the vital nutrients that I am missing from my diet.  I also want to make sure that I am mentally and internally healthy.

Life Change and Happiness

So a year or two ago I weighed in, for the second time, over 300 lbs.  I was dealing with depression and anxiety, but didn’t know it.  I knew something was very wrong cause I didn’t want to be anymore and I didn’t want to do anything or go anywhere.  I was just existing.  So I went to the doctor cause there was no way that I was going to last much longer without help.  I was diagnosed with Major Depression and Anxiety and was put on medication. The medication my doctor wanted me on was very expensive and since I didn’t have insurance, there was no way I was going to be able to afford it, so he gave me samples until it went generic.  This was extremely generous of him.  I can’t believe what good it did me.  I actually had motivation to get out of the house!  I started walking on a daily.  I worked up to a mile a day and before long I was up to 2…3…4 miles a day and doing 5k’s!  It was great, until the medication went generic and I couldn’t get samples anymore.  I still couldn’t afford insurance, so I couldn’t afford the medication (generic cost around $400 for a 30 day supply)! So they prescribed a different cheaper medication and had me go cold turkey on the first and start the second in the same week.

That was Hell!

I decided from there I was going to go all natural.  I heard from a friend to check out the Pain and Stress Center for all natural supplements that could help.  I called them and they suggested some different products, which I ordered.  When I started on those, things just blossomed.  I was feeling better, calmer, healthier.  I didn’t have any side effects and things were great.  I later became a doTerra Wellness Consultant and used the oils instead of the other, due to cost.  It worked great as well and eventually was able to get off my blood pressure medicine.

Then, my back started giving me troubles and I stopped walking.  I was however able to keep the weight that I had lost off (40 lbs), but wasn’t able to lose anymore.  I became sedentary for several months, until I took on a temp. job with an old employer.  That is a whole different story that I wont get into.  Jumping forward 2 months and a move….

Mom and I decided to look at joining a gym for the pool and water aerobics classes.  That’s all we wanted to do. We went in to one and had a tour; the more we looked around, the more I really got interested in doing the whole thing ( swimming and lifting weights).  The lady showing us around told us about their trainers and the wellness program they had.  You paid $10 to see the trainer and they would customize a program for you to follow for 6 weeks and then you would see the trainer again.  So we met with the trainer who talked us into once a week sessions for $20 an hour, which is actually a great price.

We trained for an hour that day.  It was a HARD hour.  When you go from sedentary to full work out… it takes a huge toll on your body.  The next day, I could barely walk.  I was questioning if standing up would be worth it.  Hahaha  That’s when you know you have been over worked.  It took 4 days for me to be able to walk normal. We started going to water aerobics classes everyday, minus Thursdays and then the trainer on Wednesdays.  On our 2nd Wednesday, we met another lady who joined our little group, then worked our hour of hell.  At the end of the workout, we somehow was talked into 2 training’s a week, so now its water aerobics Monday- Wednesday and Friday-Saturday, then the trainer on Monday and Wednesday.  I’m trying to do two workouts a day, so I can burn 3,000 plus calories a day.

It’s funny because after the hour of hell, I look forward to the next one.  Also, Thursday and Sundays are our rest days and I am starting to feel like a bum on those days.  I never thought I would actually miss working out. I have actually started making better eating choices as well and drinking a lot more water.  It’s crazy to think that life changes can happen so quickly.

All these changes and spending so much time with my mom has made me so happy.  I have nothing to complain about.  I’m noticing changes in my body, how I stand and don’t slouch as much.  I’m feeling better and feeling healthier every day.  It’s an amazing change that has happened so quickly or at least it feels quick, not sure if 3 weeks is quick.

What a Difference…

What a difference 17 days makes…. the weather went from 60’s to 80’s and 90’s so fast! Plus, added rain which makes it humid….

Its as if Texas followed us up here…. well TEXAS…. GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!!!!  You are not welcome here!  I miss the cooler, breezy weather.

It’s been very rainy here and I am so grateful that it hasn’t been too stormy.  God has protected us every time and I couldn’t be more thankful. I pray that he continues to watch over us and our loved ones, in keeping us safe from the elements and keeps us out of harms way.

On another note… In that 17 days since I last posted, my mother and I joined the gym and have been doing very well.  I’ve lost 5 so far and her 4.  We started doing water aerobics daily and a trainer once a week.  That has now changed to water aerobics daily and the trainer twice a week.  This is going to be grueling but I think and hope it will be well worth it.

One more change or addition is mom and I finally came up with a name for our upcoming business.  If I haven’t mentioned before, mom and I are starting a business for handmade home goods.  We will be making decorative pillows, blankets, bags, doggy goods, etc.  It took us months to come up with a good name that wasn’t taken and we decided on Opey’s Home.  Its a play on words; O P is Home (Overland Park.)  I really like it.  We then had a logo designed and cards ordered and now we are coming up with a product tag design, which I think we had a light bulb moment today.  Once we get those in order than we can get going with making the products.  This will be exciting!

I have come up with businesses in the past but they don’t go far…. this time I want to do it right.  I don’t want to just through a half done product out there.  I want to make sure it looks professional.  That takes time.  You have to come up with a name and all that goes with a business, front end and back end.  We need to be as organized as possible.

A lot has happened, good things and I only see things getting better.  Thanks to God!

So Happy To Be Here!!!

Well so here we are, coming up on the end of the month and I am so happy we moved here!  I am loving the weather!  In all of April and so far May we have had maybe 2 severe weather warnings, which I can handle. If I were still in Texas, I would have had a couple of heart attacks by now with all the crazy weather they have been having.

I have a huge fear of severe weather! Total anxiety attacks, passing out, loss of appetite, upset stomach, hot flashes, raising heartbeat.  The whole nine yards!  That’s one reason why I wanted out of Texas.  The atmosphere there is just crazy!  We were at a picinic this past weekend and it was perfect outside and I heard some people saying how humid and warm it was.  Hahaha, what!!!! If that was hot and humid then I am happy we are here!  It was nothing compared to the heat and humidity in Texas!

Most of April it’s been in the 60’s which is perfect for me and there is usually always a light breeze.  LOVES IT!!!!!! Minus the weather, there are so many nice people here!  I can’t tell you how many people have welcomed us to the area and told us how much we will love it here.  Its such a pleasant change compared to where we were at.  So many people before were rude and it was as if manners were non-excistant.

Our new place is so cute and the perfect size for us.  It’s quiet and the neighbors seem very nice.  There are a lot of children around, which is a good sign.  Hopefully by time we have kids, there will still be kids around here.  The drive to mom and dads is nice and its nice to be able to come over and do dinner whenever. I love it!  I can’t say so much for the doggies.  They are used to a backyard where they can freely run around.  Here we have communal backyard with no fences which means they have to be on leashes everytime we go out.  When we were at my parents they were still able run around so now that they have to get used to the leash and harness.  Its slow going but they will just have to get used to it.

In any case, I am so happy here!

It’s Been Too Long!

I can’t believe how fast time has flown by!  All of April flew by and I wasn’t able to post because I didn’t have my computer with me.

I went up to Kansas for all of April and a good part of May.  My poor husband had to stay in Texas and do most of the packing, since I didn’t get much done.  Every night I would call him to get the daily scoop and say goodnight. It was pretty hard to stay away for so long.  Every week I got “homesick” for him at least once and then I would think, not much longer, I can do this.

We (my mom and I) were supposed to head back to Texas at the end of April, but there were other things that came up so we postponed the trip for the next week, which meant we had to cancel the going away party.  The next week was supposed to be our huge garage sale, but again we postponed for another week (this time due to weather), so we had to cancel that.  Poor hubs still having to do things on his own while we decide to stay here even longer.  The 3rd weekend was moving weekend so we really couldn’t postpone that trip.  So we decided to come as late as possible, really not wanting to stay in Texas any longer than we had to.

We drive there Tuesday night, finished packing on Wednesday, picked up my dad from the airport on Thursday and packed the truck that day, drove back to Kansas on Friday, and unpacked the truck/signed the lease on Saturday.  It was the longest 5 days!

We thought a 17 ft truck would fit all of our junk and boy were we wrong! Granted we planned a huge garage sale that didn’t happen, so we had a lot of extra stuff to take with us.  We didn’t have enough room in the truck so we ended up having to leave a lot behind.  Our landlord is pretty cool cause when I let them know, they said to just put it all in the garage and they would trash it all for us.  So thankful for them!

It has been a very busy time and it’s still a very busy time…

Here it has been a week and a half and the hubs has started work and mom and I’s business has started, but we are not yet fully unpacked.  It’s really my fault.  I am procrastinating just as much now as I was when it was time to pack.  Next time I will pay someone to pack, move, and unpack for me.  It would get done a heck of whole lot faster.  Not sure what my hesitation to unpacking is.

Happy to be here though! Here is to finishing the unpacking by the end of this month!

9 to 5 Freedom!!!!!

9 Months ago, I decided to go back to work.  We didn’t need the money, but the offer came up to go back to a company I had worked with before and I just had the strongest feeling that God wanted me there.  I didn’t know why, but I wasn’t going to question him.

So I went back on a contract basis for 3 months with the intention of staying longer.  We decided to put all my paychecks in savings and try to pay off debt and allow me to get insurance.

I thought God brought me back to whip the office into shape, but without authority, that wasn’t going to work.  Things in the office were starting to get crazy and we were about to start this huge project and I’m just sitting there thinking, I don’t think I am going to be able to handle this.  I just had to pray about it and trust that God had brought me here for a reason.

3 Months later, we extended my contract until March 2015, “the end of the project”, we knew I would be there past the 3 month mark, but I did get a small raise.  There are 5 groups to this project and groups 3 and 4 are the biggest.  The first group had about 60 people, the second group had about 200 people, groups 3 and 4 had about 400 people each, and the last group had about 200 people.  That’s 1,260 people, give or take that I was in charge of.  Each person required about an hours worth of work on my part and I had 9 months to do all that I needed to do.  There was no way.

We asked for help several times, but was denied and it wasn’t until February 2015, when the boss saw how far behind I was and after I told him we were officially moving, that he finally brought someone in.  I can’t tell you how thrilled I was, because I was drowning and there was no light at the end.  I was moody, my depression was coming back, I was starting to resent my coworkers, and annoying my husband with the amount of complaining I was doing.  I also gave up a lot.  I gave up sleep, my zen, all that i had worked for to get my zen, my bible study, my dogs freedom, and a possible baby (I had a very early miscarriage, and although I can’t prove that this job caused it, I can say that all the stress I was under, didn’t help.)

The girl that was to relieve me from part of my job, was very impressive.  She was twice as fast as me, I will humbly admit that.  She caught on so fast and was doing so well that I knew she would be the perfect replacement for my position after we left.  The project is being extended so they will need someone after my contract is up.

I wanted to quit every week but didn’t want to give up on God.  I thought I knew why he had brought me here, but I was wrong.  I know now, he brought me here so we could save a nest egg.  So we could finally move to Kansas. Without it I’d (I’d say we but the hubs is doing this for me) be stuck here.  Now I can finally follow my dream of reconnecting with my family.

So, here I am, March is here and I am just so excited that this is my last month and I can see the light and I’m no longer drowning, I’m able to tread at this moment.  This is now catch up time, let’s get all caught up before I leave everyone.  I was still very busy, but I know the end of the crazy is near and that is an awesome feeling.

4 Weeks left, then 3 weeks, then 2 weeks, and finally my last week is here and I am so stinking excited!  I got to come in later on a couple of days and got to leave early on my last day, which was great because the company took me out to lunch and the girls I work with gave me some very sweet and thoughtful gifts.

Yesterday was my last day….. I am now free!  Free to sleep in, to take lunch when ever I want, to dress how I like, to not brush my hair.  Hahaha

Just free….. *sigh of relief

Stress is starting to melt away and I can feel my blood pressure lowering.  Now I can get my life back.
